Why you should avoid the date in the URL

A lot of sites and blogers use the date to create the links on pages and articles. I think It’s mistake! The url should be as a signal for search engines. Keep on!

What information for search engines and users may carry an URL that contains the date?

As for users, so it allows to learn only the date of this article. In the case of search engines - this might have a positive effect, if a person is looking for archived information for a certain period.
But just think about, how often do people look for information for a specific date?! Very rarely! So I think - using the date in the URL does more harm than good!

Here’s my argument:

If you use a date in the URL in the folder
(www.blog.com/18/01/2008/internet/google-page-rank.html) before the category name and the name of the file, so the relevant words are at the end of the links, thereby decreasing their weight. If the keywords, with the help of which the seeker searched are in the URL, they usually appear bold, the similar situation with the title pages. Therefore, I believe that sooner faces keywords in the URL and title, the more likely to be heading higher in the issuance of these keywords and attract more attention to users of search engines.

Even if your page with the date in the URL is above another page in the results of the withdrawal, the user can simply think that your article is old and the information on it is outdated. This is especially true because many search engines publish the date of the last update of the page.
The dates considerably complicate the readability and remembrance of the page address. Using the date you prolonged the reference size. Because of this, it may appear incorrectly in the letter or elsewhere in the block bounded length. Either option is possible, when some sites will automatically shrink the length of the published references, in this case the users will see only the date of the articles, but nothing about the title will be known to them.

The use of dates in the URL, can affect the correct site work. For example, if you want your Robots.txt remove old pages from being indexed, it is very easy to make mistakes in the rules and prohibit indexing all pages.

I hope my argument persuaded you!
